Samsung has released the much-awaited Galaxy Fit in some markets today. Spain, Italy, and South Korea are among the markets to get the device initially. The wearable is priced at €99 in the European countries, whereas in South Korea, it costs 118,800 won (~€90).

Samsung announced the Galaxy Fit back in February, along with its cheaper version, the Galaxy Fit e. The Fit e, which costs €39.99, went on sale earlier this month. The Galaxy Fit should also be available in more markets soon. It comes in black and silver and weighs just 23 grams.

Galaxy Fit and Fit e are almost equally capable fitness trackers

Despite such a huge gap in pricing, the Galaxy Fit and the Galaxy Fit e are almost equally capable fitness trackers. Both can track activities like biking, hiking and running, have MIL-STD-810G military-grade ruggedness certification, and are water-resistant for up to 10 minutes at a depth of 50 meters. You also get automatic motion detection as well as sleep, stress, and heart-rate tracking in both devices.

However, the two wearables differ significantly in some hardware aspects. The Galaxy Fit features a 0.95-inch Full Color AMOLED display and packs a 120 mAh battery. The Galaxy Fit e, meanwhile, gets a 0.74-inch monochrome PMOLED display, as well as a smaller 70 mAh battery. Also, the Galaxy Fit comes with notification interactions, whereas the Fit e only supports incoming notifications without the option to respond.

We have known for a few weeks now that Samsung is working on a new Galaxy M series device. We can now exclusively reveal some Galaxy M40 specs. As expected, this device is shaping up to be quite a feature-packed one in its price range.

Samsung introduced the Galaxy M series in India about four months ago. These devices have been priced aggressively to compete with Chinese manufacturers. That’s part of the reason why they have largely been sold online only. They also offer decent bang for your buck. The Galaxy M10, M20 and M30 have thus all been well received.

Galaxy M40 specs revealed

The company is expanding the new lineup with the forthcoming Galaxy M40. A few details about the device were recently confirmed by a high-ranking Samsung executive in India. We know that the Galaxy M40 will have a 32-megapixel rear camera and that it will be priced around ₹20,000 (~$285). Given what we now know about its specs, the Galaxy M40 seems to offer great value for money.

We can now reveal the other Galaxy M40 specs. It features a 6.3-inch FHD+ 2340×1080 pixel resolution Infinity-O display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor under the hood. There’s also going to be 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It was expected that the device would have a 5,000mAh battery like the Galaxy M30 but that’s not the case. The Galaxy M40 will have a 3,500mAh battery.

There is indeed a 32-megapixel camera at the back alongside a 5-megapixel depth and 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. A 16-megapixel selfie camera is present as well. It’s pertinent to note that the Galaxy M40 will be the first device in this series to ship with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.

Samsung recently confirmed that the Galaxy M40 will be launched in India on June 11. That’s when it will confirm official pricing information for the device. It won’t upset the apple cart in terms of its release. The Galaxy M40 will stick with Samsung’s online-only sales strategy for the Galaxy M series. It will be available from Amazon and Samsung’s own online store in the country.

After appearing on Geekbench yesterday, the upcoming Huawei nova 5i made its way over to Antutu. The phone is expected to be announced in June and is expected to arrive alongside the Huawei nova 5, which will allegedly feature 40W fast charging support. The Antutu scorecard confirms the Kirin 710 chipset and 4GB RAM for the 5i, along with 64GB storage. It managed to push out 131,715 points which is in line with other midrange offerings. Samsung has the habit of launching special editions of its flagship devices to commemorate special occasions such as major sporting events, release of popular movies, etc. Despite the much-awaited release of the Avengers: Endgame presenting a similar opportunity, the Korean company decided to go with just Marvel-themed cases this time for its Galaxy S10 lineup. It is now quietly bringing these accessories to some of its midrange devices as well.

Samsung has started selling Marvel-themed cases for few of its newer Galaxy A models in select regions. Multiple Marvel cases for the Galaxy A40, A50 and A70 went on sale on many third-party portals recently without any fanfare. While these cases for the Galaxy A50 have been announced previously by Samsung Philippines, this is the first time we are seeing them for the Galaxy A40 and A70.

Netherlands’ retailer Coolblue has listed Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, and Spider-Man-themed smart covers for the Galaxy A50 and A70. Amazon Germany has these cases listed for the Galaxy A40 as well. They are priced at €29.90 each, which, like any other official cover, is expensive compared to third-party offerings.

Interestingly, though these are official Samsung cases, they are not listed on the company’s website in the regions we checked. They are also not available in all the markets yet. However, none of this should be an issue as there are plenty of third-party cases available for these phones in the market.

As promised, Oppo spin-off Realme has started rolling out the stable build of Android Pie for the Realme 2 Pro. The new firmware carries build number RMX1801EX_11.A.20 and weighs 2.71GB in size. Multiple reports are now suggesting that there’s a good chance the Galaxy Note 10 may not have a headphone jack. If that is the case, it would be the first flagship phablet without the 3.5mm headphone jack. As you can probably imagine, a lot of Samsung fans are going to be very opinionated about this.

One can argue that this is inevitable. Samsung had to eventually remove the headphone jack from its flagship phones. It has to start somewhere, the Galaxy Fold notwithstanding. Others may feel that this is a good differentiating factor to have, that Samsung should stand out of the crowd by continuing its support for this standard.

Samsung launched the Galaxy A70 (review) and the Galaxy A80 in Thailand last month. While the former has already gone on sale in several countries, Samsung is making all of us wait a little longer for the latter. Not much long now, though, at least not for customers in India.

We’ve learnt that Samsung is holding exclusive previews of the Galaxy A80 across the country next week. The events, where it will allow the public to play with the phone, will be held in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kolkata on June 8 and 9.

Samsung is holding exclusive Galaxy A80 preview events for its fans in India next week. Samsung fans in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad can get their hands on the new Galaxy on Saturday, June 8. People in Bangalore and Kolkata will have to wait an extra day: The Galaxy A80 arrives in your city on Sunday, June 9. The events will kick off at 06:00 PM IST (01:30 PM CET) and are open for all. You may, however, need to register your name via the Samsung Members app. Details about the venues for the events will also be shared via the app soon.

The preview events should be followed by an official launch of the device in India. The Galaxy A80 is tipped to cost somewhere between ₹40,000 (~$570) and ₹50,000 (~$720) in the country. While the phone impressed us during our short hands-on session at the launch event, whether it can justify its flagship-like price tag is something we will be able to tell you only in our full review.

It was first reported last week that Samsung may soon launch the Cardinal Red Galaxy S10. Renders of this new color option have already surfaced online so it may not be long before it arrives. A retailer listing suggests that this new color option might become available in some European markets from next month.

Samsung often releases new colors for flagship smartphones several months after they hit the market. It’s a good way to reignite consumer interest in the device. We have seen the company do this with its previous Galaxy flagships as well.

Cardinal Red Galaxy S10 could arrive next month

Samsung is yet to confirm when it will officially begin shipping the Cardinal Red Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+. A retailer listing suggests that this option with 128GB storage will be available in Switzerland next month. An earlier report said that Samsung will only offer this in Russia and markets across western Europe.

So it’s possible that the Cardinal Red Galaxy S10 may just see limited availability. That would rule out the device for other major markets like the United States and countries in Asia. In that case, customers in those markets who want one will just have to import a unit.

Nothing else will change about the device except its paint job. All of the specs and features will remain the same and so will the price. We’ll be sure to let you know once Samsung starts shipping this new color option for its 2019 flagship.

There was a report about the Galaxy Note 10’s headphone jack yesterday, in that the upcoming flagship won’t have one. It will be a polarizing decision. Some will be fine with it while others will voice their displeasure.

Yesterday’s report also mentioned that the Galaxy Note 10 could ditch its physical power, volume and Bixby keys as well. Samsung was apparently considering capacitive or pressure-sensitive alternatives. The company might have thought about it but a well-known leakster says it’s not going to happen.

Galaxy Note 10 headphone jack could really get the ax

We did highlight the possibility that these changes might have been part of an early Galaxy Note 10 prototype. There’s no saying if they will make the cut. @UniverseIce gave his two cents on yesterday’s report on Twitter. He says that it was indeed an early prototype which didn’t have physical buttons. It was a radical change but apparently, it didn’t pass Samsung’s rigorous testing. This means that the idea was dropped and it will be business as usual in the buttons department.

However, those keeping their fingers crossed for the headphone jack will be concerned by his next tweet. The leakster says that it’s not looking “optimistic” for the Galaxy Note 10 headphone jack. This would suggest that even recent prototype iterations are sans the 3.5mm headphone jack. It may very well be filtering through the design process and could end up in the final product.

We still have a ways to go, though, so this can change in the future. Samsung could decide towards the end that it wants to give the headphone jack one last hurrah on its flagship phablet. Some new information has surfaced regarding Samsung’s upcoming flagship. It’s about the Galaxy Note 10 headphone jack, or lack thereof. The report claims that Samsung will remove the 3.5mm headphone jack from the Galaxy Note 10. Not only that, it’s also said to ditch the physical buttons.

So if the information turns out to be accurate, the Galaxy Note 10 won’t have a headphone jack. It also won’t have buttons for power, volume and Bixby. Though I’m sure not a lot of people are going to miss that last one.

Don’t keep your fingers crossed for the Galaxy Note 10 headphone jack

Citing a source familiar with the company’s plans, Android Police reports that Samsung will likely not include a 3.5mm headphone jack with its next flagship smartphone. The company is perhaps the only major Android vendor still selling flagships with the jack. It’s not like Samsung is entirely opposed to the idea. There are a couple of recent mid-range handsets that don’t have it. The Galaxy Tab S5e doesn’t have one either. Let’s not forget that Samsung didn’t include a 3.5mm headphone jack with the Galaxy Fold as well.

It’s important to note (pun intended) here, though, that none of those devices would sell as many units as the company’s next Galaxy Note. Thus a lot more people will have an opinion about this move. You can already tell that it’s going to be polarizing. Samsung will get an earful from fans who have long appreciated its staunch support of the standard. The company could try to placate them by offering pre-order customers a free pair of Galaxy Buds. It already did that quite liberally with the Galaxy S10 so perhaps that was a glimpse of things to come?

As for the other buttons, the report mentions that there may not be any physical volume, power and Bixby buttons on the device. There may be prominent/raised capacitive or pressure-sensitive areas in their place to act as a sort of fake buttons. The scribe doesn’t know if Samsung intends to carry these changes over to the Galaxy S11 next year. It also backs up our recent confirmation that Samsung will be offering the Galaxy Note 10 in two different sizes.

Samsung could try to sell customers on these changes by arguing that this frees up additional space to make the device thinner and lighter. No headphone jack would particularly free up space for a larger battery. The idea of a slimmer Galaxy Note 10 with a 6.75-inch display and S Pen sans headphone jack and buttons may not seem that bad to them. Korean media has actually been talking about this possibility since about eight months ago.

Do keep in mind that this isn’t set in stone just yet. Even the site itself classifies its report as a rumor. It’s possible that this information may be based on a prototype of the Galaxy Note 10 that may or may not end up being the final version. We’ve been hearing about Samsung dropping the headphone jack on a flagship phone for years now. It’s yet to happen but I think it’s about time we start contemplating the inevitability of that decision.

Samsung is now rolling out the newest Galaxy S10 update in a handful of more countries, following its debut in Switzerland earlier this week. The new update (XXU1ASE6) is the second one that has been issued to the Galaxy S10 lineup this month and brings fixes for the freezing issues users had been facing with the first May security update. At the moment, we can confirm it is out in Germany, India, and Russia, and it shouldn’t be long before more countries join the party.

The new update does seem to fix all problems: Our devices here at SamMobile are running fine after installing it, and many of our readers have also confirmed to us that that’s indeed the case. Samsung was pretty quick with releasing the bug-fixing update, which is good considering the severity of the issues that have been plaguing users after installing the previous update. Now, they can simply enjoy all the camera improvements instead of worrying about when their S10e, S10, or S10+ might start up acting again.

The drill for grabbing the new update is the same as always: Open the Settings app on your Galaxy S10, select Software update, then select the Download and install option to start downloading the update over the air. If it doesn’t show up for you right away, be sure to check back in a little while as these updates are released in phases and can take some time to reach every user. You can also download the new software through our firmware database and flash it on your phone using a Windows PC.

The Galaxy S8+ was one of the first few devices which received the May 2019 security patch earlier this month. However, Samsung is now rolling out a new Galaxy S8+ May update today. There are no big ticket items included in the update so don’t expect much in the way of new features.

Germany was the first country where Samsung rolled out the May 2019 security patch for the Galaxy S8+. Today’s update also happens to be rolling out in Germany first. It weighs in at quite a bit more than the first May update.

New Galaxy S8 May update rolling out

Since the device has already received the latest security maintenance release, it doesn’t apply a new monthly patch. Samsung won’t actually be detailing June’s patch until next week at the very least.

The changelog of this update, bearing version number G955FXXU4DSE4, only mentions camera stability improvements and an update for the security patch. We checked anyway just to be certain if features like the new Night mode and Scene Optimizer had trickled down perhaps. That’s a hard no.

The original May 2019 update for the Galaxy S8+ weighed in at just over 400MB while the firmware that’s rolling out today comes in at north of 600MB. Whatever changes it applies behind-the-scenes must be significant enough to warrant a second update in the same month.

Samsung is now rolling out this firmware version over-the-air in Germany. You can also download it from our firmware section. It may not be long before the Galaxy S8 also receives its May 2019 security patch. Users in other markets across the globe will eventually get the update well.

Samsung’s upcoming “e” variant of the Galaxy A10 is nearing its launch. The device, Galaxy A10e, recently passed through the FCC with model number SM-A102U and also secured Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Alliance certifications. Now, ahead of the impending launch, it has been spotted on the Geekbench benchmark database, revealing some key specs.

Galaxy A10e specs include Exynos 7884 SoC with 2GB RAM

The Geekbench listing says the Galaxy A10e has the Exynos 7885 chipset with eight physical cores. However, the actual benchmark scores and the CPU’s base frequency of 1.35 GHz suggest it to be the Exynos 7884 instead, the same chipset as the standard A10. After all, it wouldn’t really make sense for an “e” variant to better than its non-“e” sibling. Coincidentally, the Galaxy A10 was also reported to have an Exynos 7885 chipset by the Geekbench benchmark.

The Galaxy A10e also gets 2GB of RAM and will come with Android 9 Pie out of the box, exactly like the A10. This essentially means the two devices will offer pretty much identical performance. However, since the “e” variant is supposed to be cheaper, Samsung may downgrade the A10e in some other areas, such as a smaller display and battery. And if that’s the case, we could be looking at a compact budget phone from Samsung.

The model number SM-A102U suggests that the Galaxy A10e will be launched in the US as well, which is a rarity for Samsung’s budget phones. Samsung also has at least three other Galaxy A phones, the Galaxy A20, A50, and the A70, in the pipeline for a US launch.

A number of Galaxy devices are receiving an update with the May 2019 security patch in various parts of the world. These devices include the Galaxy J7 Duo, Galaxy J5 Pro, Galaxy Note Fan Edition, and the Galaxy Tab Active 2, and the updates seem to be basic ones with only security fixes. That means that other than the Galaxy Note Fan Edition, no device is getting the Android Pie update.

However, security updates are important as well, and these devices have fixes for the most recent security flaws discovered in the Android operating system and Samsung’s own software. The May patch fixes seven critical and dozens of high and moderate risk Android OS vulnerabilities, along with 21 vulnerabilities of varying severities that only affect Galaxy devices. Samsung details these critical vulnerabilities on its security website for those who are interested in the specifics.

If you own any of the devices mentioned above, you can check if the update is available for you by going into the Settings app, tapping Software update, then selecting the Download updates manually option (on Android Pie, this is called Download and install). The Galaxy M40, Samsung’s fourth smartphone in the Galaxy M series, will soon be making its official debut, with the company having confirmed a June 11 launch for the device. The Galaxy M40 is going to have plenty of attractive features, like a triple rear camera setup, Snapdragon 675 SoC, and an Infinity-O display, which suggest it is going to be similar to the Galaxy A60 that was launched in China a few weeks ago. And supporting those rumors is a new report from 91Mobiles, which reveals the megapixel count for the primary rear camera and the front-facing camera.

32 million pixels at the back, half that for selfies

The information comes straight from the horse’s mouth: 91Mobiles was told by Asim Warsi, Senior Vice President at Samsung India, that the M40 will have a 32MP rear camera and a 16MP front-facing camera. The rear camera resolution matches that of the Galaxy A70, so we’re assuming the other two cameras at the back will be 8-megapixel ultra-wide and 5-megapixel depth sensors. It’s just an assumption, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility going by the specs for other smartphones Samsung has launched recently with triple-camera setups.

Warsi also said the Galaxy M40 “will be a flagship-category offering priced around ₹20,000 (~$285).” While the M40 will technically be a mid-range device, Samsung calling it a flagship-category phone makes sense, as the M40 will have impressive specs for a Galaxy phone priced under $300. In fact, it will probably end up affecting sales of the Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A70, both of which are excellent phones but will be undercut by the M40’s pricing. However, it may not have that much of an effect, as the Galaxy M40 will not be available at offline retail stores.

Samsung has been supplying its auto chips to Audi for use in its infotainment systems since 2017. Continuing the partnership, the South Korean electronics giant will now supply the German carmaker with its Exynos Auto 8890 processor. The processor will power Audi’s A4 and other upcoming cars’ upgraded in-vehicle infotainment system. The new Audi A4 will be available in Europe starting this fall.

Exynos Auto 8890 powers Audi A4

The Exynos Auto 8890 boasts 8 CPU cores and 12 GPU cores, and is capable of powering Audi’s modular infotainment platform (MIB). MIB is a technology “that anticipates the drivers’ needs by keeping up with the latest advancements in information and entertainment equipment”. The Exynos Auto 8890 will function as its main processing unit, handling multimedia playback, navigation, and vehicle control. The chip also supports multi-OS and can manage up to four displays simultaneously.

Samsung’s auto chips will continue to power Audi’s future cars as well, at least for a couple more years. Earlier this year, the company launched the Exynos Auto V9, its first Auto-branded Exynos processor. It will be used in the German automobile manufacturer’s next-generation in-vehicle infotainment system that is set to debut in 2021. Samsung’s automotive components received the ISO 26262 Certification from TUV Rheinland for functional safety earlier this month.
