Global smartphone shipments continued to plummet during the January-March period with 269.8 million units shipped based on the latest report from Canalys. The figure is 13% lower than the same period last year and continues the negative trend seen in past quarters due to a mix of factors including inventory build-up and limited consumer demand. Samsung shipped 60.3 million smartphones in Q1 which translated in a 22% market share. Samsung’s revamped Galaxy S and Galaxy A portfolios led to the bounce back.
