Apple releases iOS 12.5.6, fixing security issue for older devices

Today Apple has issued a new software update, but this one is a bit special, as it's intended for the older models that the company doesn't support anymore - not with its latest iOS builds at least. We're talking about iOS 12.5.6, which is already going out to those iPhones and iPads stuck on the iOS 12 branch, including the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, original iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and even the 6th gen iPod touch. The new update's build number is 16H71, and it addresses a security vulnerability in WebKit which leads to arbitrary code execution and Apple says...

TrendForce: iPhone 14 price hikes may be smaller than expected

Apple is cutting one iPhone model (the mini) and adding one (the vanilla Max), so a shake-up in the pricing structure is to be expected. Some analysts have been predicting that the prices for the two Pro models will go up by $100, but TrendForce thinks that the price hike will be smaller. In fact, the iPhone 14 could be $50 cheaper than its predecessor, which started at $800. Of course, last year there was the iPhone 13 mini for $700 as the cheapest new (non-SE) model. This year you will be looking to spend $750 or $800 for a new mainline iPhone at the least, if the predictions pan...

Huawei confirms that the Mate 50 phones will feature cameras with variable aperture

Huawei has officially confirmed one of the most interesting rumors about the upcoming Mate 50 series before the September 6 announcement – the phones will feature a variable aperture on their cameras (presumably only the main camera). Almost all phones these days have fixed apertures with rare exceptions and even those usually switch between two settings. Huawei kept it vague, but according to rumors the phones will be able to dial in the aperture smoothly between f/1.4 and f/4. This will give users control over the depth of field (the bigger the f-number, the deeper the DoF), but...
